Educating Essex

Type of Documentary:
-Fly on the wall

Themes:
-Education in essex and how it differs from other schools

-Problems that teachers face on a daily basis

-The lives of teenagers

-Bullying

-Teenage pregnancy

-The importance of a stable family background and how it can affect students and teachers

Camerawork:
-Close ups of students and teachers being interviewed

-CCTV footage within the school to track and discretely monitor students

-Pan across the class rooms to portray what actually happens inside class rooms

-Medium shots of a wider picture in a class room to distinguish the scene

-Long shots of the school to establish the power it has in authority

Mise-En-Scene:
-Shots of lockers and lots of other school resources

-Cutaways of students walking down corridors when an interview has finished and moving on to a different topic just like a student would between going lessons

-Head teachers office and deputy heads office to try and give an insight to the wider audience of how troublesome being asomeone with power in a school

-Collage of school work from the students and quotes of famous people on walls to convey the morals and standards that the school sets out to acheive and has done through the students work in class

-Shots of a school trophy cabinet, to try and portray the success of the school

-Teachers and students in strict uniform, a typical feature that you would associate with schools up and down the country

-Shots of empty corridors which gives the audience an off limits and exclusive look into the school

Sound:
-School bell sounding

-Screams of students in the corridor

-Quick paced music which reflects the lives the students live

-Solemn music is played when a student gets in to trouble because no student wants to be in trouble and face the punishment of their actions.

Editing:
-Quick transitions to connote the the quick pace of the students in the school

-Blurring

-Cuts and fading

-Often slow transitions to represent something bad thats happened to a student

-The walking pace of the students are sped up around two seperate students in the school when the emphasis or topic matter is concentrated on them.

-Opening titles

-Hashtag saying '#EducatingEssex' so people on twitter can voice their opinions on the show

-Name of the interviewee when they are being interviewed and the role they have in the documentary
